Wave control: freezing, shoving and resetting
Where the minions are standing decides who is safe, who can leave and who is about to get ganked. It is the cheapest advantage in the game.
01The wave moves toward whoever kills slower
Minion waves push toward the side that is dealing less damage to them. That single rule is the whole mechanic: if you last-hit only, the wave drifts to you; if you clear fast, it drifts away. Everything called freezing, shoving or slow-pushing is just choosing how much damage to put into the wave and when.

02Freeze when you are winning the 1v1
Holding the wave just outside your tower keeps your opponent standing in the longest, most dangerous part of the lane. It only works if you would win the fight that follows, otherwise you have parked yourself next to a wave you cannot defend. A freeze is an offer: come and take this farm and see what happens.

03Shove before you want to leave
You cannot walk away from a lane that is sitting in the middle — you lose the farm and the tower takes the pressure. If you are planning to recall, help with a dragon or rotate, spend the twenty seconds before that clearing the wave into the enemy tower. Then leaving costs you nothing, and your opponent has to stay behind to deal with what you left.

- A wave crashing into their tower buys you about twenty free seconds.
- A wave sitting in the middle of the lane is an invitation to the enemy jungler.
- Before you back: shove. Before you fight elsewhere: shove.
