More Shyvana guides
This guide is assembled by the site from match data and the game's own information — nobody wrote it by hand. Official and community guides appear alongside it when they exist.
Overview
This guide goes through Shyvana's kit ability by ability. The kit brings mobility with Dragon's Descent and sustain with Inferno Aegis. Its ultimate is Dragon's Descent.
Strengths
- High physical damage: Riot rates it 8/10 in attack.
- Mobility: Dragon's Descent lets you reposition, engage or escape.
- Sustain from Inferno Aegis.
Weaknesses
- Falls behind if the early ganks fail: every wasted trip is lost farm.
- Predictable if you always play it the same way: adapt your build to the enemy team.

Builds
Standard build
When to use it
The default path: Black Cleaver, Trinity Force and Spear of Shojin give the health, attack damage and on-hit effects this class relies on. Pick it when you have no reason to adapt. Built from Riot's item tags and the champion's class; Riot publishes no build statistics.
Where it's played
Picked before the game: the main lane first, then the alternatives.

Strategy
1The kit
The kit brings mobility with Dragon's Descent and sustain with Inferno Aegis.
- Scalemail — Passive. It works on its own: play around it.
- [Q] Emberstrike — Basic ability. Part of your regular rotation.
- [W] Inferno Aegis — Basic ability — heals and shields. Time it for the enemy's burst, not for chip damage.
- [E] Molten Burst — Basic ability — slows. Part of your regular rotation.
- [R] Dragon's Descent — Ultimate — moves you. Keep it to escape unless the kill is certain.
2Skill order
Put a point in Dragon's Descent at levels 6, 11 and 16. Between the basic abilities, max first the one that does most for your lane — usually your main damage or wave clear — and keep the utility one for last.
3Combos
Without hard crowd control in the kit, your damage depends on positioning: land your abilities when the enemy is committed to something else.
4Using your ultimate
Dragon's Descent is the ability the enemy plays around. Use it where it changes the fight, and remember its cooldown: after using it, you're a smaller threat for a while.
Tips
- Shyvana's abilities all benefit from attacking units. As a result, Attack Speed items are more valuable on her than most champions.
- Flame Breath is great to level-up against difficult lane opponents.
- Burnout is an ideal choice for jungling. Monsters will be hit by the full duration, and the speed boost improves her ganking potential.
- It can be valuable to purchase one of the items that can slow enemies: Frozen Mallet, Dead Man's Plate, or Entropy.
- Keep Dragon's Descent out of your combo unless the kill is certain.
Changelog
- Guide created for patch 16.19.1.
