Ahri Matchups and Counters

MatchupsData-drivenMediumPatch 16.19.1
12KUpdated

This guide is assembled by the site from match data and the game's own information — nobody wrote it by hand. Official and community guides appear alongside it when they exist.

Overview

This guide covers Ahri's matchups and how to adapt to them. Riot publishes no matchup statistics, so the matchups below come from the champions' own stats and kits: attack range, starting durability, crowd control and mobility. They describe an advantage on paper, not a measured result.

Strengths

  • Crowd control: Charm applies a charm to set up kills.
  • Sustain from Essence Theft.
  • Spirit Rush hits several enemies: a strong team fight tool.

Weaknesses

  • Mana-hungry early: spamming abilities leaves you empty before the fight.
  • The enemy jungle and supports will target you for ganks.

Strategy

1Good matchups

Ahri does well against these:

  • Akali: Ahri attacks from 550 units and Akali from 125: every trade in lane happens at a distance they cannot answer.
  • Katarina: Ahri attacks from 550 units and Katarina from 125: every trade in lane happens at a distance they cannot answer.
  • Locke: Ahri attacks from 550 units and Locke from 125: every trade in lane happens at a distance they cannot answer.

2Tough matchups

Ahri struggles against these:

  • Viktor: Gravity Field (stun) lets Viktor pin Ahri down before Spirit Rush gets them out.
  • Taliyah: Unraveled Earth (stun) lets Taliyah pin Ahri down before Spirit Rush gets them out.
  • Ryze: Rune Prison (root) lets Ryze pin Ahri down before Spirit Rush gets them out.

3Synergies

Ahri works well alongside these, because their kits fit together:

  • Soraka: Equinox from Soraka holds enemies in place for Spirit Rush from Ahri.
  • Kennen: Charm from Ahri holds enemies in place for Slicing Maelstrom from Kennen.
  • Aatrox: Charm from Ahri holds enemies in place for World Ender from Aatrox.

4Adapting the build

The situational builds in this guide answer specific threats: Against physical damage, Against magic damage and Against healing.

5Playing against Ahri

If you're on the other side, this is what to exploit:

  • Ahri's survivability is dramatically reduced when her Ultimate, Spirit Rush, is down.
  • Stay behind minions to make Charm difficult to land, this will reduce Ahri's damage potential significantly.

Tips

  • Look at the enemy team before choosing your build: the situational builds below answer the most common threats.
  • Good matchup: Akali. Play forward when you face them.
  • Tough matchup: Viktor. Play safer and wait for your team.
  • Against teams with a lot of dive, save Spirit Rush for the first jump.
  • Against slippery heroes, hold Charm until their escape is used.

Matchups

Strong against

  • Ahri attacks from 550 units and Akali from 125: every trade in lane happens at a distance they cannot answer.

  • Ahri attacks from 550 units and Katarina from 125: every trade in lane happens at a distance they cannot answer.

  • Ahri attacks from 550 units and Locke from 125: every trade in lane happens at a distance they cannot answer.

Weak against

  • Gravity Field (stun) lets Viktor pin Ahri down before Spirit Rush gets them out.

  • Unraveled Earth (stun) lets Taliyah pin Ahri down before Spirit Rush gets them out.

  • Rune Prison (root) lets Ryze pin Ahri down before Spirit Rush gets them out.

Works well with

  • Equinox from Soraka holds enemies in place for Spirit Rush from Ahri.

  • Charm from Ahri holds enemies in place for Slicing Maelstrom from Kennen.

  • Charm from Ahri holds enemies in place for World Ender from Aatrox.
