This guide is assembled by the site from match data and the game's own information — nobody wrote it by hand. Official and community guides appear alongside it when they exist.

Overview

This guide goes through Draven's kit ability by ability. Its ultimate is Whirling Death.

Strengths

  • High physical damage: Riot rates it 9/10 in attack.
  • Long attack range (550) for safe trades in lane.
  • Clear job in the team: farm safely, deal sustained damage and take down towers.

Weaknesses

  • Fragile: Riot rates it 3/10 in defense.
  • No dash or blink in the kit: vulnerable to ganks without vision.

When to use it

The default path: Stormrazor, Yun Tal Wildarrows and Blade of The Ruined King give the attack damage, critical strike and attack speed this class relies on. Pick it when you have no reason to adapt. Built from Riot's item tags and the champion's class; Riot publishes no build statistics.

Where it's played

Abilities

  • League of DravenPassiveDraven gains his fans' Adoration when he catches a Spinning Axe or kills a minion, monster, or tower. Killing enemy champions grants Draven bonus gold based on how much Adoration he has.Passive. It works on its own: play around it.
  • QSpinning Axe12/11/10/9/8s45 mpDraven's next attack will deal bonus physical damage. This axe will ricochet off the target high up into the air. If Draven catches it, he automatically readies another Spinning Axe. Draven can have two Spinning Axes at once.

  • RWhirling DeathUltimate100/90/80s100 mpDraven hurls two massive axes to deal physical damage to each unit struck. Whirling Death slowly reverses direction and returns to Draven after striking an enemy champion. Draven may also activate this ability while the axes are in flight to cause it to return early. Strategy

1The kit

Draven's abilities, one by one:

  • League of Draven — Passive. It works on its own: play around it.
  • [Q] Spinning Axe — Basic ability. Part of your regular rotation.
  • [W] Blood Rush — Basic ability. Part of your regular rotation.
  • [E] Stand Aside — Basic ability — slows. Part of your regular rotation.
  • [R] Whirling Death — Ultimate. Plan your fights around its cooldown.

2Skill order

Put a point in Whirling Death at levels 6, 11 and 16. Between the basic abilities, max first the one that does most for your lane — usually your main damage or wave clear — and keep the utility one for last.

3Combos

Without hard crowd control in the kit, your damage depends on positioning: land your abilities when the enemy is committed to something else.

4Using your ultimate

Whirling Death is the ability the enemy plays around. Use it where it changes the fight, and remember its cooldown: after using it, you're a smaller threat for a while.

Tips

  • If Draven doesn't move, Spinning Axe will fall near his present location. It will fall directly on him, or just to the right or left.
  • If Draven does move after attacking, Spinning Axe will lead him in the direction of his movement. Use this to control where the Spinning Axe will go.
  • Watch Whirling Death's cooldown: fights you take without it are much harder.
  • Practise the combo in a practice game before using it in ranked.
