Braum for Beginners

BeginnersData-drivenEasyPatch 16.19.1
659Updated

This guide is assembled by the site from match data and the game's own information — nobody wrote it by hand. Official and community guides appear alongside it when they exist.

Overview

Braum belongs to Riot's Tank and Support classes and is played mainly as Support (100% of the public matches we measured). It fights in melee range and uses mana. In this guide you play it as Support: your job is to win the bottom lane with your marksman, control vision and enable your carries. Braum is one of the more forgiving picks, a good choice to learn the role.

Strengths

  • Very durable: Riot rates it 9/10 in defense.
  • Mobility: Stand Behind Me lets you reposition, engage or escape.
  • Sustain from Winter's Bite.

Weaknesses

  • Low priority on gold and experience.
  • Predictable if you always play it the same way: adapt your build to the enemy team.

Abilities

  • Concussive BlowsPassiveBraum's basic attacks apply Concussive Blows. Once the first stack is applied, ally basic attacks also stack Concussive Blows. Upon reaching 4 stacks, the target is stunned and takes magic damage. For the next few seconds they cannot receive new stacks, but take bonus magic damage from Braum's attacks.Passive — applies a stun. It works on its own: play around it.

Strategy

1What Braum does

Braum belongs to Riot's Tank and Support classes and is played mainly as Support (100% of the public matches we measured). It fights in melee range and uses mana. The kit brings crowd control (stun) with Concussive Blows and mobility with Stand Behind Me. Its ultimate is Glacial Fissure.

2The basics

In this guide you play it as Support: your job is to win the bottom lane with your marksman, control vision and enable your carries.

  • Vision: every ward you place is information your team can use.
  • Don't take minions from your marksman: your gold comes from your support item.

3Common mistakes

Most new players lose games with the same few mistakes. Avoid these and you'll already be ahead:

  • Warding alone in enemy territory.
  • Using Concussive Blows on the tank instead of the carry.
  • Leaving your marksman alone in lane for too long.

4Your first games

Your lane is about your marksman: trade when the enemy walks up to last hit, and ward the river before dragon spawns. Complete your support quest to unlock wards. Use the simple build in this guide and don't worry about situational choices yet.

Tips

  • Vision: every ward you place is information your team can use.
  • Don't take minions from your marksman: your gold comes from your support item.
  • Check the minimap every few seconds: most deaths come from a jungler you didn't see.
  • Learn what Glacial Fissure does before anything else: it's the ability that wins fights.
