Diana for Beginners

BeginnersData-drivenEasyPatch 16.19.1
7KUpdated

This guide is assembled by the site from match data and the game's own information — nobody wrote it by hand. Official and community guides appear alongside it when they exist.

Overview

Diana belongs to Riot's Fighter and Assassin classes and is played mainly as Jungle (76% of the public matches we measured). It fights in melee range and uses mana. In this guide you play it as Jungle: your job is to clear camps efficiently, gank the lanes that can win and control dragons, grubs and Baron. Diana is of average difficulty: learn the basics below and it rewards you quickly.

Strengths

  • Mobility: Lunar Rush lets you reposition, engage or escape.
  • Sustain from Pale Cascade.
  • High magic damage: Riot rates it 8/10 in magic.

Weaknesses

  • Mana-hungry early: spamming abilities leaves you empty before the fight.
  • Falls behind if the early ganks fail: every wasted trip is lost farm.

Strategy

1What Diana does

Diana belongs to Riot's Fighter and Assassin classes and is played mainly as Jungle (76% of the public matches we measured). It fights in melee range and uses mana. The kit brings mobility with Lunar Rush. Its ultimate is Moonfall.

2The basics

In this guide you play it as Jungle: your job is to clear camps efficiently, gank the lanes that can win and control dragons, grubs and Baron.

  • Clear speed and pathing: a jungler who is always a camp behind loses every objective race.
  • Tracking: knowing where the enemy jungler is tells you where to gank, where to invade and when to take an objective.

3Common mistakes

Most new players lose games with the same few mistakes. Avoid these and you'll already be ahead:

  • Ganking a lane that is pushed under your own tower.
  • Starting an objective without vision while the enemy jungler is unaccounted for.
  • Using Smite on a champion when the dragon or Baron is still in play.

4Your first games

Start with your jungle pet and Smite, plan a full clear towards the lane you want to gank and show up when that lane has the enemy pushed and without Flash. Use the simple build in this guide and don't worry about situational choices yet.

Tips

  • Clear speed and pathing: a jungler who is always a camp behind loses every objective race.
  • Tracking: knowing where the enemy jungler is tells you where to gank, where to invade and when to take an objective.
  • Check the minimap every few seconds: most deaths come from a jungler you didn't see.
  • Learn what Moonfall does before anything else: it's the ability that wins fights.
