Overview
Ekko belongs to Riot's Assassin and Mage classes and is played mainly as Jungle (70% of the public matches we measured). It fights in melee range and uses mana. In this guide you play it as Jungle: your job is to clear camps efficiently, gank the lanes that can win and control dragons, grubs and Baron. The kit brings crowd control (stun) with Parallel Convergence, mobility with Phase Dive and sustain with Chronobreak. Its ultimate is Chronobreak. Riot rates it 5/10 in attack, 7/10 in magic, 3/10 in defense and 8/10 in difficulty.
Strengths
- Crowd control: Parallel Convergence applies a stun to set up kills.
- Mobility: Phase Dive lets you reposition, engage or escape.
- Clear job in the team: clear camps efficiently, gank the lanes that can win and control dragons, grubs and Baron.
Weaknesses
- Fragile: Riot rates it 3/10 in defense.
- Mana-hungry early: spamming abilities leaves you empty before the fight.
- Hard to master: Riot rates its difficulty 8/10.
Build cheat sheet
Pick the build that fits what you want to do this game.
- Standard buildBalancedRecommendedThe default path: Cryptbloom, Archangel's Staff and Blackfire Torch give the ability power, magic penetration and ability haste this class relies on. Pick it when you have no reason to adapt. Built from Riot's item tags and the champion's class; Riot publishes no build statistics.
- Burst buildOffensiveAdvancedAll-in on damage: Shadowflame, Void Staff and Bloodletter's Curse stack ability power, magic penetration and health. Choose it when you're ahead or the enemy team is fragile — it gives up safety for kill pressure.
- Defensive buildDefensiveSituationalKeeps enough damage while adding armor, ability power and magic resist through Zhonya's Hourglass, Banshee's Veil and Dusk and Dawn. Choose it against dive, assassins or a lane you can't win.

Z-Drive ResonancePassiveEvery third attack or damaging spell on the same target deals bonus magic damage, and grants Ekko a burst of speed if the target is a champion.
QTimewinder9/8.5/8/7.5/7s40/50/60/70/80 mpEkko throws a temporal grenade that expands into a time-distortion field upon hitting an enemy champion, slowing and damaging anyone caught inside. After a delay, the grenade rewinds back to Ekko, dealing damage on its return.- Cooldown

WParallel Convergence22/20/18/16/14s30/35/40/45/50 mpEkko's basic attacks deal bonus magic damage to low health enemies. He can cast Parallel Convergence to split the timeline, creating an anomaly after a few seconds that slows enemies caught inside. If Ekko enters the anomaly, he gains shielding and stuns enemies by suspending them in time.- Cooldown

Strategy
1Early game
Start with your jungle pet and Smite, plan a full clear towards the lane you want to gank and show up when that lane has the enemy pushed and without Flash. A gank works when the lane is pushed towards the enemy tower and the enemy has used Flash or their escape: pick those moments instead of forcing a bad one.
- Early items: Blighting Jewel and Fiendish Codex.
2Mid game
With Cryptbloom and Archangel's Staff, play around the next dragon or Baron: take vision with your laners first, then force the fight or trade the objective across the map. Your spikes are level 6, when Chronobreak comes online, and each completed item: Cryptbloom first, then Archangel's Staff.
- Core items: Cryptbloom, Archangel's Staff and Blackfire Torch.
3Late game
Late, Smite decides Baron and Elder: stay close to the pit when it's up and never get caught farming on the far side of the map before an objective spawns.
- Late items: Zhonya's Hourglass and Banshee's Veil.
4Team fights
In fights, enter after the enemy uses their key crowd control and land Parallel Convergence on the carry; keep Smite for the objective, not for damage. Use Chronobreak where it hits the most enemies or catches the key target.
5Playing against Ekko
Riot's own advice for facing this champion:
- Ekko is significantly weaker when his ultimate is down. Watch for the trail he leaves behind to determine if Chronobreak is available.
- Ekko's stun zone takes 3 seconds to arm. Watch for the image he creates on cast and try to guess where the zone was placed.
- The second hit of Timewinder does more damage than the first; try to avoid it.
Tips
- Chronobreak is a potent escape tool, but it can also be quite powerful when used offensively. Don't underestimate its damage potential.
- If you can proc Z-Drive Resonance on an enemy champion, it's worth taking risks to do so. The bonus Move Speed makes it easy to escape.
- Phase Dive's dash is a great tool for setting up Ekko's other abilities. Use it to get double hits with Timewinder or get into position to detonate Parallel Convergence.
- Rush Cryptbloom: it's the item that speeds up your clears and your ganks the most.
- Before an objective, reset and buy wards: fight it with full health and Smite ready.
- Gank the lane with crowd control: two stuns in a row are worth more than any damage.
Matchups
Strong against
Parallel Convergence (stun) lets Ekko pin Jayce down before To the Skies! / Shock Blast gets them out.
Parallel Convergence (stun) lets Ekko pin Briar down before Head Rush gets them out.
Parallel Convergence (stun) lets Ekko pin Diana down before Lunar Rush gets them out.
Weak against
Rootcaller (root) lets Ivern pin Ekko down before Phase Dive gets them out.
Burrow / Un-burrow (knock-up) lets Rek'Sai pin Ekko down before Phase Dive gets them out.
Vault Breaker (knock-up) lets Vi pin Ekko down before Phase Dive gets them out.
Works well with
Parallel Convergence from Ekko holds enemies in place for Explosive Cask from Gragas.
Parallel Convergence from Ekko holds enemies in place for Supreme Display of Talent from Qiyana.
Parallel Convergence from Ekko holds enemies in place for Command: Shockwave from Orianna.
