Lux Abilities and Combos

Abilities & combosData-drivenMediumPatch 16.19.1
4.4KUpdated

This guide is assembled by the site from match data and the game's own information — nobody wrote it by hand. Official and community guides appear alongside it when they exist.

Overview

This guide goes through Lux's kit ability by ability. Its ultimate is Final Spark.

Strengths

  • High magic damage: Riot rates it 9/10 in magic.
  • Long attack range (550) for safe trades in lane.
  • Clear job in the team: win the bottom lane with your marksman, control vision and enable your carries.

Weaknesses

  • No dash or blink in the kit: vulnerable to ganks without vision.
  • Mana-hungry early: spamming abilities leaves you empty before the fight.

When to use it

The default path: Moonstone Renewer, Echoes of Helia and Imperial Mandate give the health, ability power and mana regeneration this class relies on. Pick it when you have no reason to adapt. Built from Riot's item tags and the champion's class; Riot publishes no build statistics.

Where it's played

Picked before the game: the main lane first, then the alternatives.

Strategy

1The kit

Lux's abilities, one by one:

  • Illumination — Passive. It works on its own: play around it.
  • [Q] Light Binding — Basic ability. Part of your regular rotation.
  • [W] Prismatic Barrier — Basic ability. Part of your regular rotation.
  • [E] Lucent Singularity — Basic ability — slows and hits an area. Part of your regular rotation.
  • [R] Final Spark — Ultimate. Plan your fights around its cooldown.

2Skill order

Put a point in Final Spark at levels 6, 11 and 16. Between the basic abilities, max first the one that does most for your lane — usually your main damage or wave clear — and keep the utility one for last.

3Combos

Without hard crowd control in the kit, your damage depends on positioning: land your abilities when the enemy is committed to something else.

4Using your ultimate

Final Spark is the ability the enemy plays around. Use it where it changes the fight, and remember its cooldown: after using it, you're a smaller threat for a while.

Tips

  • Lux has great zone control abilities. Try to set up Lucent Singularity to prevent an enemy's advance or escape.
  • If you have trouble landing Prismatic Barrier, remember that it returns to you after it reaches max range. Try positioning yourself to hit your allies with its return trip.
  • Lucent Singularity is a great scouting tool. Try throwing it into brush before walking into it to check for ambushes.
  • Watch Final Spark's cooldown: fights you take without it are much harder.
