Sett Aggressive Guide

OffensiveData-drivenMediumPatch 16.19.1
5.5KUpdated

This guide is assembled by the site from match data and the game's own information — nobody wrote it by hand. Official and community guides appear alongside it when they exist.

Overview

This guide is about playing Sett aggressively. Aggressive top means trading on every cooldown advantage, forcing the enemy under tower and taking Herald or plates with your jungler. Your spikes are level 6, when The Show Stopper comes online, and each completed item: Black Cleaver first, then Trinity Force. Riot rates it 8/10 in attack, 1/10 in magic, 5/10 in defense and 2/10 in difficulty.

Strengths

  • High physical damage: Riot rates it 8/10 in attack.
  • Crowd control: Facebreaker applies a stun to set up kills.
  • The Show Stopper hits several enemies: a strong team fight tool.
  • Sustain from Pit Grit.

Weaknesses

  • No dash or blink in the kit: vulnerable to ganks without vision.
  • Every death while playing aggressively hands the tempo back to the enemy.

When to use it

All-in on damage: Terminus, Lord Dominik's Regards and Blade of The Ruined King stack attack damage, attack speed and on-hit effects. Choose it when you're ahead or the enemy team is fragile — it gives up safety for kill pressure.

Abilities

  • Pit GritPassiveSett's basic attacks alternate between left and right punch. Right punch is slightly stronger and faster. Sett also hates losing, gaining additional health regeneration based off of his missing health.
  • QKnuckle Down9/8/7/6/5sSett's next two attacks deal additional damage based off of the target's max health. Sett also gains Move Speed while moving towards enemy champions.

Strategy

1When to fight

Your spikes are level 6, when The Show Stopper comes online, and each completed item: Black Cleaver first, then Trinity Force. Aggressive top means trading on every cooldown advantage, forcing the enemy under tower and taking Herald or plates with your jungler.

2Picking your targets

In fights, reach the enemy backline or protect your own; Facebreaker is best used on the carry, not on the tank. The best target is the one your team can reach and kill before the enemy answers, not always the most valuable one.

3Snowballing a lead

After a won fight, take dragons and towers before anything else: that's what turns kills into a lead the enemy can't erase. Early, fight for tower plates and help your jungler with Herald or grubs when your wave is pushed.

4When to back off

Safe top means freezing the wave near your tower, trading only when the enemy uses a key ability and waiting for your items. If your key abilities are on cooldown or the enemy is missing from the map, the aggressive play is to wait.

Tips

  • Fight on your spikes: right after Black Cleaver, look for the next fight instead of farming.
  • Look for kills when The Show Stopper is ready and the enemy's key ability is not.
  • Use Facebreaker to start the fight, then commit your damage.
  • Track the enemy's key cooldowns and attack right after they use them.
  • Turn every kill into dragons and towers: a kill without an objective is a wasted lead.
  • Push your lane before you roam so the aggression doesn't cost you resources.

Matchups

Strong against

  • Sett starts with 670 health and 33 armour against Heimerdinger's 558 and 19: the early trades are already won on paper.

  • Sett starts with 670 health and 33 armour against Quinn's 565 and 28: the early trades are already won on paper.

  • Facebreaker (stun) lets Sett pin Zaahen down before Aureate Rush gets them out.
