Lux Matchups and Counters

MatchupsData-drivenMediumPatch 16.19.1

This guide is assembled by the site from match data and the game's own information — nobody wrote it by hand. Official and community guides appear alongside it when they exist.

Overview

This guide covers Lux's matchups and how to adapt to them. Riot publishes no matchup statistics, so the matchups below come from the champions' own stats and kits: attack range, starting durability, crowd control and mobility. They describe an advantage on paper, not a measured result.

Strengths

  • Long attack range (550) for safe trades in lane.
  • High magic damage: Riot rates it 9/10 in magic.
  • Clear job in the team: win the bottom lane with your marksman, control vision and enable your carries.

Weaknesses

  • No dash or blink in the kit: vulnerable to ganks without vision.
  • Mana-hungry early: spamming abilities leaves you empty before the fight.

When to use it

For a lane or a team that hits with attacks: armor boots and an armor item in the core.

Where it's played

Strategy

1Good matchups

Lux does well against these:

  • Alistar: Lux attacks from 550 units and Alistar from 125: every trade in lane happens at a distance they cannot answer.
  • Blitzcrank: Lux attacks from 550 units and Blitzcrank from 125: every trade in lane happens at a distance they cannot answer.
  • Braum: Lux attacks from 550 units and Braum from 125: every trade in lane happens at a distance they cannot answer.

2Tough matchups

Lux struggles against these:

  • Soraka: Equinox silences Lux, whose damage comes from abilities.
  • Malzahar: Call of the Void silences Lux, whose damage comes from abilities.
  • Cho'Gath: Feral Scream silences Lux, whose damage comes from abilities.

3Synergies

Lux works well alongside these, because their kits fit together:

  • Vayne: Condemn from Vayne gives Lux, who has no crowd control, a target that can't dodge.
  • Irelia: Flawless Duet from Irelia gives Lux, who has no crowd control, a target that can't dodge.
  • Singed: Fling from Singed gives Lux, who has no crowd control, a target that can't dodge.

4Adapting the build

The situational builds in this guide answer specific threats: Against physical damage, Against magic damage and Against healing.

5Playing against Lux

If you're on the other side, this is what to exploit:

  • Lux has powerful zone control abilities. Try to spread out and attack from different directions so she cannot lock down a specific area.
  • When retreating with low health, be prepared to dodge Lux's Final Spark, a red targeting beam fires prior to the main beam, so try to move to the side if possible.

Tips

  • Look at the enemy team before choosing your build: the situational builds below answer the most common threats.
  • Good matchup: Alistar. Play forward when you face them.
  • Tough matchup: Soraka. Play safer and wait for your team.
  • In a tough matchup, an even lane is already a good result.
